BANE

A diffident coral refraction caresses
the tremulous azure sheen.
Dawn hastens away; she will not linger
where Creation's course was
treacherously disordered, where every
acre lies fallow, sown with
the salt of a sea of innocent tears.

A ghost of a chartreuse carpet bemoans
its ravaged pile to sand strewn
spreads where forests knelt in prayer to
the Seasons. Listless moths
droop under their fading nacreous wings
beneath a white majolica
sun glowering low behind bone trees.

The weight of timeless woes cracks the
pale earth, its mesh of crevices
like funerary lace. Life's ancient, misty
presence hovers over the ground,
fearful of alighting upon deathlike silence,
now part of the fabric of this
tearlessly weeping piece of Earth.
